Kim Jong-un calls for replacing "last-century" weapons with state-of-the-art equipment.

Kim Jong-un calls for replacing "last-century" weapons with state-of-the-art equipment.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has insisted on the need to replace the North Korean army's current weapons with "state-of-the-art" equipment that will allow the country's armed forces to be renewed in the short term, thus achieving "the second revolution in armored forces."

"Replacing our Army's armored vehicles of the last century with state-of-the-art tanks and armored vehicles is the most important issue in building the armed forces and modernizing the Army," the president said during a visit to a major tank factory.

Kim emphasized that modernizing the North Korean armed forces' weapons systems in the short term is "an important task for realizing the Party Central Committee's long-range vision and strategic plan to promote the second revolution in armored forces."

This process, he noted, involves updating "all production processes" at that and other factories, a milestone that requires "constant technological progress and increased production."

Only in this way will they be able to "become a model for establishing culture in the munitions industry in the new century , paying due attention to improving the work environment on an advanced basis," he added.

This proposal by the North Korean leader is part of a broader set of tasks agreed upon at his party's eighth congress , which established the "fundamental objective" of the arms industry as providing its equipment with "an intelligent, precise, and highly efficient base" and "orienting research, development, and production toward its implementation."
